The Films of 2009

This year, I found, was full of really great movies, really bad movies (as in on all time), disappointments and total surprises. Even a few right out of left field. All this more than in past years, as strange as that sounds. It seems the dynamics of 2009 were all over the map. The biggest movies of the year were some of the worst reviewed, a legendary director returned and reminded us how fun movies can really be, another took his shtick and did won...

Avatar is why We Go to the Movies

I’ll keep this simple. Avatar is a reminder of what it’s like to have fun at the movies. Now, that can be said for a lot of films, especially heavy special effects driven action flicks, but those are what they are. You enjoy them, then move on. Avatar is in a league all its own and not only do you find yourself immensely entertained, you become captivated by it all – something rare in film going today.

This is why you go to movies. Have you forgotten? Hell,...

Trailing Trailers #17

Now this is a damn good week for trailers

Robin Hood

Trailer

Ridley Scott doing a period piece with men’s-men, grunting and Russel Crowe? Sign me up. I’m not a fan of the music in this trailer, and the stories of production/script problems are notorious on the project, but I’m really hoping for the best and a solid period act...

Golden Globe Picks

Posted at 11:56 AM on December 18, 2009 Comments comments (0)

Before really getting into picks, let me say this: The Golden Globes are pretty much a joke. Sure, it’s better than some crap awards, but their credibility has always been in questions (again this year, but I won’t go into it. Let’s just say Maguire being nominated isn’t a surprise to those who know it).

There’s always influence and bad-mouthing, but the contention of bribery and “gifts” have always been something the HFPA has had on...

Action Figure Craziness

Posted at 08:31 PM on December 14, 2009 Comments comments (0)

Recently, by that I mean today, Cracked.com put up an article listing some crazy action figure products. I have to say, had I seen some of these when I did my article (one of my very fist things on the site) I would have included them. The Superman SHIELD figure was great, and I completely forgot about the Turtles Birthday ones (I think I had one of those). Hilarious. so check it out - you might see a couple of familiar entries.

Trailing Trailers #16

Posted at 01:27 PM on December 11, 2009 Comments comments (0)

It's an odd week with few trailers to really look at, so this might be a little different than usual.

Fading of the Cries

Trailer

What...what the hell is this? The trailer is all over the place and it seems to badly be tryign to do it's best Twilight impression (or, rather, best Twilight if it were on DVD impression, whi...

To Save a Life

Trailer

First off, how dare the trailer start like it does. That's just cheap. It tries to be hip and cool, and we soon realize it's a pretty damn serious drama.  Unfortunately, I have no idea what the hell movie this is supposed to be, it seems like it's trying to send a message, but I think it's half myste...

Uncharted Raiders of the Holy Grail

I fucking love the Uncharted games.

It's official.

The last time I was addicted to a game...well, I can't quite remember. Not on this level, anyways. Bioshock, maybe?

I'm not a big "videogamer" these days. I pretty much got my fill from the Atari era to the Playstation/N64 era. After that, it's been hit and mis...

When the Robot Apocolypse Happens, let's Blame Japan.

Look, Japan, have you not seen the countless movies, read the various books or even listened to the music of our world warning itself of the inevitable future of us being enslaved by our robot masters? The Terminator? Phillip K Dick? I Robot? The Flaming Lips's Yoshimi versus the Pink Robots album? Sure, it starts all cute. They look human, they move like humans, have AI, they dance...

Ghostbusters – The Videogame

Being marketed as official canon, Ghostbusters the videogame could have been utterly horrible. In fact, let’s face it, most expected something, at best, mediocre in the long line of mediocre licenced games. Then ...
