Trailing Trailers #12

Despicable Me

Trailer

"Great. Another CG animated movie." That would, of course, be the reaction of most people. After watching both trailers here, though, I have to say it looks pretty original, charming and witty. I especially like the second trailer which is done with few words (if any, really) and acts more like a short than a part of the feature. I don't think this is one of those big-budget animated films, but I also like the aesthetic look of it. Overall, I have to say I'm impressed and would be full ready to see it if I hadn't taken a oath to never see a movie with a theater full of kids again after a miserable time at UP.

Also...love the title.

Shake Hands with The Devil

Trailer

After about a minute into the trailer, maybe even sooner, I came to the conlusion that this movie is going to be a waste of time and money. Why? Because we've seen this exact movie a dozen times over. King of Scotland. Hotel Rwanda. Schindler's List, even. I can't get excited over yet another movie telling the true story of one man's fight in a country and people that are in peril. Melodramatic and straightforward, there's nothing here to get excited over no matter how well-made it might end up being.

Eichmann

Trailer

Another one I'm not really sure of, but at least Nazis are naturally interesting, Eichmann being one of the worst from history. I get a strong Judgement at Nuremberg vibe off of this, but if the story is told well (and tastefully) then I can see something strong coming from it.

Also, Stephen Fry looks like Ricky Gervais...just saying.

The Killer Inside Me

Trailer (Warning, lots of spoilers, this is a promor sales trailer)

The fact this was shot in my hometown does not sway me at all. I love the cast, Alba looks to show a litle acting ability here and Casey Affleck one of my favorites, and the director has a great record of solid filmmaking with A Mighty Heart, Tristam Shandy and In This World. This feels like a powerful thriller that's going to really play with some emotions (the trailer does already).

LOVE

Trailer

Sorry, as much as this might end up being good I can't get past the fact that it's Angles and Airwaves "pet project." I expect something pretentious and self serving with awful music...just like the band itself.

Prince of Persia

Trailer

I'll keep this short a sweet. I don't care how good this may look, it's still a videogame movie. Look at the track record, there's no reason to think that will change.

Well, one solid animated film and a potentially good thriller is all I'm excited for this week.
